Creative Summary

Generally, we are more easily drawn to negative words, images, and videos rather than positive or neutral ones. The headlines in the news always convey a lot of 'breaking bad news'. The media capitalizes on the negative bias in human nature to make the news sound even more negative, capturing people's attention, which leads to the dissemination of non-objective or incorrect information in the news. This results in cognitive biases in people and even leads to irrational thinking and behavior.

This work uses four newspapers in two different ways to help readers identify negative biases in the news. It exposes how emotions are added to news through language and selective reporting, encouraging us to approach the news more critically and objectively.

The piece presents headlines from both domestic and international news, conveying this global issue in both Chinese and English. It guides us on how to interpret and analyze news text through the creation of special formatting and different colors, from interpreting the emotional bias of the entire news piece to analyzing the levels of text processing.
